“We apply our belief into all of our economic practices and produce our gin in the most environmentally friendly way possible. We start by sourcing recyclable and sustainable materials, including glass bottles, natural corks, hemp string decoration and cardboard boxes.
We are also committed to a plastic policy that actively avoids (single-use) plastic. For packaging shipment, we omit bubble-wrap and styrofoam and instead use shredded 100% recyclable boxes for cushioning the goods. We also use paper (and currently developing sugar cane) straws and are trialing paper packing tape to replace the plastic one.
In order to avoid plastic waste, we have decided to refrain from the usage of PVC/PET shrink caps but look for a more ecological way of how we could protect the cork of our bottles. The result is a 100% biodegradable shrink sleeve made from polylactic acid. This is a compostable material that complies to global standards and is the only approach into a greener world.
For the production of our marketing materials, we take a similar approach as we try to source recycled paper or that made out of elephant dung for our brochures and flyers.”

“Aside from company-wide commitment to minimise plastic usage, such as using paper packaging tape, reusing plastic bags in shipping, at SKIIM, we also rarely use plastic in our collections.
For instance, in our SS21 collection, aside from fusing for which we are looking for a sustainable alternative, we are using only 3 articles containing petroleum based plastic. Out of these 3 articles, only one contains 50% virgin plastic.
In upcoming seasons, we are sure that we can make the virgin plastic content to zero.”

“Globally, McQueens Flowers has made significant progress in reducing the use of plastics. We use 80% fewer clear plastic sheets to wrap each bouquet than a year ago and replaced cellophane with a biodegradable alternative in January 2020. We stopped using floral foam completely for all event and contract flowers in March 2020 – two years ahead of plan. Made from phenol formaldehyde, eliminating floristry foam takes great technical skill and different ways of working to achieve the same jaw-dropping designs.”

Being a member of Big Blue Ocean Clean-up, we support ocean clean-up projects which try to shed light on the consequences of using plastic.
