Taking place on 22 April 2025, Earth Day is a global celebration of environmental progress and a call to action for a more sustainable future. This year’s theme – Our Power, Our Planet – highlights the urgent need to transition to renewable energy and triple global clean electricity generation by 2030. As part of our Earth Day celebrations, we’re spotlighting inspiring members from the Real Changemaker community who are driving real, tangible change. Through their innovative sustainability initiatives and partnership with Positive Luxury, these leaders are transforming industries and redefining what it means to be a truly responsible brand. Their stories are a powerful reminder that sustainability and luxury are not mutually exclusive. Together, they prove that real change isn’t just possible – it’s already underway.
This Earth Day, how are you showing the world what real change looks like?
“At Matilde Jewellery, real change means reimagining fine jewellery for a better future. This Earth Day, we’re continuing to lead with purpose – proving that luxury and sustainability can go hand in hand. From exclusively using recycled gold and lab-grown diamonds to ensuring ethical production and packaging, we’re challenging outdated norms and setting a new standard for conscious craftsmanship. Real change is about transparency, responsibility, and action – and we’re proud to be part of a global movement that puts the planet and people first. Positive Luxury has been a trusted partner and a powerful catalyst on our sustainability journey. Being awarded the Butterfly Mark is not only a recognition of our values, but also a meaningful framework that’s helped us refine and strengthen our practices. Their rigorous assessment encouraged us to push further – from supply chain traceability to social impact and governance. Positive Luxury continues to guide us with insights and accountability, empowering Matilde Jewellery to grow with integrity, transparency, and a positive impact at every level.”
“Sicily and nature have always been our inspiration – from the organic farm where we cultivate our ingredients to our refillable packaging. Our commitment to real change is unwavering, and this Earth Day, we’re thrilled to announce the launch of our partnership with the Sicily Environment Fund (SEF), a foundation dedicated to protecting Sicily’s biodiversity and supporting local conservation efforts. Founded in 2022, SEF plays a crucial role in funding grassroots environmental and conservation initiatives across Sicily. Their efforts help protect the very landscapes that inspire our products, empowering local communities to build a sustainable future. Through this partnership, we are furthering our mission to protect both the land that inspires us and the people who call it home. Positive Luxury provides an exceptional framework that helps brands identify areas for improvement in their sustainability efforts. While no one can claim to be 100% sustainable, this approach allows us to clearly see where we can grow. They’re also incredibly supportive, offering valuable promotion and backing for brands like ours, which makes the journey toward sustainability feel both achievable and rewarding.”
“At Piper & Skye, we believe real change begins when we think without boundaries – when we question the norm, reimagine what’s possible and push beyond the expected. In luxury, this means moving past aesthetics to redefine beauty through purpose, innovation and environmental responsibility. This mindset guides every thread, every material and every decision. From our pioneering use of pirarucu fish leather – a regenerative byproduct sourced responsibly from the Amazon – to our bold work with invasive species like the Florida Burmese python to help protect the Everglades, Piper & Skye creates pieces that regenerate, not deplete. Our collections are crafted in the U.S. by local artisans, supporting fair labor and reducing emissions associated with global shipping. At the source, we partner directly with fishing communities, providing sustainable tools, like custom-designed nets that prevent overfishing and preserve biodiversity. Luxury, to us, must uplift every hand it touches, not just the final customer. Positive Luxury has been a vital guide in our pursuit of higher standards. Through their rigorous Butterfly Mark certification, we’ve assessed our practices across all ESG pillars and used those insights to strengthen and expand our commitments. Their evolving benchmarks and global insight help us anticipate change, raise the bar, and hold ourselves accountable – not just for where we are, but where we’re going. At Piper & Skye, we’re proud to think differently. To lead with integrity. And to challenge fashion to do more. We are in times of great change. This presents a powerful opportunity for emerging, purpose-driven brands like ours to introduce bold differentiators – disruptions that matter. We welcome the challenge. We lean in. And we continue to delve deeply into how we, as a brand, are reshaping fashion from the inside out. We’re always ready and we love what we’re made of.”
“As designers and makers of contemporary jewellery, we aim to trailblaze a more sustainable business model for the luxury jewellery sector. For us, real change is driven by problem-solving and resilience. We’re constantly seeking out better, more sustainable materials for our designs – materials like castor seed oil polymer or ancient oak, used in ways they’ve never been used before. By showcasing their natural beauty and versatility, we demonstrate that design has no limits. Our resilience is evident in our refusal to settle for anything less than 100% recyclable packaging. It’s been a long journey – one of research, prototyping, and working closely with our partners to keep pushing forward. The result is a luxury experience for our customers that also helps pave the way for meaningful change. Positive Luxury has provided us with the motivation to look at every aspect of our business, from our energy consumption to our materials. It is so important to feel part of a community of luxury brands, all taking inspiration from one another and supporting our efforts to make beautiful things without costing the Earth.”
