Godavari is a diamond brand founded on the principles of sustainable luxury, mindful design and bespoke craftsmanship. We sat down with the Director, Jane Bell, to find out more about her leadership style and to get her advice for aspiring sustainable leaders.
What makes a great – or successful – leader?
I think it is the ability to see an opportunity or purpose that others either can’t or won’t. A successful leader can also clearly articulate this purpose and inspire their team to achieve at the highest level.
What are your personal strengths as a leader?
Vision for the business and compassion for others, along with confidence, helps define my approach. I want to bring my team along on the journey and celebrate their successes. Honesty, transparency and humility are all important elements that make up who I am and what I expect of those around me.
What is the toughest lesson you learned?
Sometimes doing everything right is just not enough – there will always be issues that are beyond your control, it’s how you respond to these curveballs that matters. It’s important that I always look forward whilst remaining agile when responding.
And the most rewarding?
It’s important to me that I take time to really think about making a difference with my business. For example, with Godavari we always take the time to ‘bake in’ sustainability right at the beginning when developing new products. I find that incredibly exciting and fulfilling.
What is the one piece of advice you would give to an aspiring leader?
Hold true to your values whilst keeping an eye on your end goals, and don’t sweat the small stuff!
Why should people be positive about the future?
