Julia Hailes, author of The Green Consumer Guide, shares her thoughts about plastics and the current conversation around them. The challenge we face today is not simply about turning off the plastic tap. Humans need to use their ingenuity to come up with solutions that dramatically reduce waste of all types, stop it from getting into the ocean and take account of wider environmental issues like climate change.

Plastics are not the key problem; it’s how we use them.
