REAL CHANGE IN ACTION

CLIMATE & CIRCULARITY

As luxury architectural and interior designers, Oliver Burns Studio are proud to be encouraging those they work and collaborate with to share their sustainability goals. In addition to ensuring clarity and purpose in their supply chain, Oliver Burns Studio have also partnered with a number of charities to ensure that any unwanted items from a project can be re-purposed and re-used before being considered for recycling.

ETHICAL OPERATIONS & COMMUNITIES

The brand has implemented an employee handbook clearly outlining company policies in relation to employee responsibilities and rights, health & safety, diversity & inclusion, training and skills development as well as feedback and grievance processes. They have also implemented a human rights policy and continuously ensure suppliers adhere to this as well. To give back to their communities and reduce waste, Oliver Burns Studio partners with local charities for furniture and other material donations, including the charity Furnishing Futures, helping to create healing homes for women and children fleeing domestic abuse and Emmaus, working together to end homelessness.

RESPONSIBLE SOURCING

Oliver Burns Studio has adopted a material evaluation and rating system, to make more responsible choice of materials and switch to more sustainable alternatives wherever possible. In 2023 the brand adopted a responsible sourcing supplier questionnaire as part of their sustainable sourcing strategy. The supplier vetting process covers environmental and social considerations measuring a prospective supplier's performance on topics like emissions, logistics and packaging, waste, labour practices and supply chains. They have also implemented a supplier code of conduct to outline the ethical principles and standards suppliers must follow to ensure the integrity of their sustainability commitments.

A WORD FROM THE CO-FOUNDER
We have always believed that luxury design should go beyond the aesthetic to reflect deeper values and meaning. Our concept of thoughtful luxury underpins all that we do from designing spaces with longevity to working with local artisans that share our vision. The built environment is responsible for around 25% of total UK Greenhouse gas emissions, a statement that further reminds us of the important influence that we have across a project life cycle. We are excited and proud to be part of Positive Luxury and we are determined to bring our employees, clients, suppliers, and consultants with us on this most important journey.

WHY POSITIVE LUXURY
Sustainable practices have always been fundamental to our ethos at Oliver Burns Studio, and it was important to our Co-Founder & Creative Director, Sharon Lillywhite, that we continue to show continuous improvement in this area. As part of our sustainability strategy, we highlighted the need to align with and adopt a framework for luxury brands to ensure we are held to the highest standards. We identified Positive Luxury as our chosen framework as they are highly respected by fellow luxury brands and clients alike. In achieving the world-renowned Butterfly Mark, we are committing to delivering real change to positively impact people and nature.
