Julia Hailes

Julia Hailes is a sustainability pioneer with over 30 years in the green sector. She’s a campaigner, writer, speaker and consultant and has written or co-written, nine environmental books, including The Green Consumer Guide, which sold over 1 million copies worldwide.

In 1987 she co-founded the leading consultancy and think-tank, SustainAbility, which now has offices in London, New York and San Francisco – and has recently been acquired by ERM, the world’s leading sustainability advisory service.Since then Julia has co-founded Haller, a charity promoting sustainable agriculture in Kenya, and sat on the boards of charities, including Keep Britain Tidy and CHASE Africa, which she joined in 2018.

Between 2001 and 2006 Julia was non-executive director of Jupiter Global Green Investment Trust.  Her top two consultancy clients have been Procter & Gamble and Marks & Spencer, advising them and many other corporates on a range of sustainability issues.  Currently, Julia is working with Loop Innovations, a newly formed sustainable design company, focusing on products and systems for the circular economy.In 1992, Julia received a UN Global 500 Award for Outstanding Environmental Achievement. She has three grown up sons and lives in Dorset.
