SETTING NEW RESPONSIBLE STANDARDS & GOVERNANCE PRACTICES
May, 2025
PILLARS: ENVIRONMENT & GOVERNANCE
MATERIAL DRIVERS: CLIMATE, WASTE & ANIMAL WELFARE
THE CHALLENGE
Ochre, renowned for its subtle and sophisticated furnishings, faced the challenge of maintaining its hallmark of timeless elegance and exceptional craftsmanship while integrating sustainability practices into every part of its business. Ochre wanted to ensure synergy between the use of luxury materials, expert British craftsmanship with environmental responsibility.
CONSIDERATIONS
When instilling governance practices and sustainability policies, Ochre needed to first evaluate their existing operations and supply chain to pinpoint key risks and opportunities. Transparent, ongoing communication with stakeholders is crucial for building trust and ensuring alignment with both client expectations and regulatory standards. Finally, businesses should commit to the continuous improvement of their sustainability objectives, ensuring that environmental responsibility is integrated into their brand values without compromising quality or craftsmanship.
APPROACH & ACTIONS
With Positive Luxury’s guidance, Ochre implemented a range of initiatives to set new standards within the business:
Waste management: Ochre created a waste management policy to focus on reducing waste to landfill by 100% by 2030 and ensuring responsible disposal in accordance with their environmental standards.
Animal Welfare: Ochre created an animal welfare policy to focus on a holistic approach to animal welfare, ensuring the wellbeing of animals directly used in their products.
Climate: Ochre created an energy management and efficiency policy to support energy conservation across its value chain, aiming to expand on its use of renewable energy and LED light sources, reduce GHG emissions, and comply with international standards, including the Paris Agreement.
RESULT
By partnering with Positive Luxury, Ochre has significantly advanced its sustainability agenda with greater confidence and accountability. The newly implemented policies have empowered the business to set clear targets for energy consumption and efficiency, uphold responsible sourcing practices and enforce high animal welfare standards across its supply chain. The introduction of structured training programs has fostered a culture of waste prevention, engaging employees at all levels in the company’s environmental goals. These efforts have led to measurable progress in Positive Luxury’s ESG+ assessment, including a 67% increase in Animal Welfare performance, an improvement in Waste Management from 0 to 82 points, driven by the adoption of a comprehensive waste reduction strategy and a 36% increase in Climate performance, supported by a robust energy management and efficiency policy aligned with international climate standards. These results demonstrate Ochre’s ability to integrate sustainability seamlessly into its brand values, without compromising its hallmark craftsmanship and luxury.
