At MAES Paris we believe in 'Innovation x Savoir-Faire' as the solution to change the course of the Luxury Fashion industry. Because innovation brings positive change thanks to the untapped potential of plants and nature. And because the quality of French craftsmanship drives the durability of our products, which is key for an even lower impact. From the beginning we have been exploring and testing innovative materials. Every choice we make, from developing our primary materials with cactus or mycelium to selecting any secondary material, is made very carefully and must deliver an immediate and significant reduction in our products’ environmental impact But it does not end with materials. Every day we are challenging every step of our value chain, always looking for a better impact. In everything we do, we think about how we could be more responsible and go further in lowering our impact.

MAES Paris was born from the will to offer a new approach to French 'Haute Maroquinerie’. I strongly believe that a new path is possible and we could do so much better for our planet. For me social and environmental responsibility was a no-brainer from the day I started thinking about MAES Paris. But as I was going through the first stages of our development, I realized that being part of a larger community of brands that shared the same values and were ready to show and prove they were acting on these values was very important. I want to bring transparency in our industry. I want people to be able to see brands for who they really are and how they really act, and the Butterfly Mark is a great way to do that.

NEXT GEN MATERIALS

MAES is built on a foundation of sustainability. The brand wants to pioneer the use of innovative materials, replacing animal-based options like leather with innovative and more sustainable alternatives, without compromising the quality, durability and exceptional craftsmanship of French artisans. Its first collection of bags and accessories launched in 2022 was made in M_MAT_cactus, relying on organically-grown nopal cactus from Mexico to deliver an environmental impact significantly lower than that of traditional leather. Since then MAES Paris developed and launched the M_MAT_mycelium with its European partner MycaNova, tapping into the incredible potential of fungus to reduce even further the impact of its bags. And the future has never looked brighter. There pace of sustainable innovation increases every day. MAES Paris continues to improve its impact and aim at turning it into a regenerative force for the planet.

CLIMATE

MAES Paris is committed to becoming a net zero company by 2030. From the beginning the brand has conducted carbon footprint assessment of its products and shared them transparently on its website. Their latest innovation on materials helped them reduce by another 15% the impact of their products and they are continuously working to improve. Continuing on their path to neutrality, they have developed and implemented an employee travel policy and they are working on emissions reduction targets with the Science-Based Targets (SBTI’s) criteria.

SUSTAINABLE AND TRANSPARENT SUPPLY CHAIN

A sustainable supply chain starts with selecting the right partners. MAES Paris’ extensive supplier sourcing strategy is not just about material cost. It is critical to ensure their suppliers’ integrity and commitment on sustainable development. They have full visibility over their direct suppliers and the origin of all supplied materials, including zipper tapes, metal parts, threads, linings and reinforcements. These materials are all at least partially and in most cases plant-based or fully recycled. The brand has set ambitious targets and is engaging with suppliers through its Code of Conduct. This formal agreement sets shared goals and vision on social and environmental responsibility. All MAES’ partners have to commit on energy, waste and water management strategies as well as carbon footprint accounting.
