LA PEONY CLOTHING

La Peony Clothing (LPC) is a lux-leisure fashion brand based in Austin, Texas, offering timeless, seasonless wardrobe essentials for women who value both elegance and ethical craftsmanship. Designed for confident ease and enduring style, each piece is thoughtfully made in Los Angeles and enriched by artisan collaborations in Oaxaca, Mexico. Founder and Design Director, Melony Huber, is a purpose-driven entrepreneur who transforms high-end fashion into social impact through fair wages, eco-friendly materials and cultural storytelling.

SUSTAINABILITY PURPOSE

LPC is built on the belief that fashion should honour both people and the planet. From the beginning, founder Melony Huber envisioned a brand that merges elevated, yet practical, design with meaningful impact. Every La Peony garment reflects a commitment to ethical production, using more sustainable fabrics, trims and low-impact dyes. The brand partners with artisan communities in Oaxaca, Mexico and produces in small batches in Los Angeles to ensure transparency, fair wages and respectful working conditions without compromising quality. Sustainability at LPC goes beyond materials – it’s a mindset woven into every decision. The collections have been intentionally seasonless and timeless, encouraging long-term wear and sales cycles over fleeting trends. Packaging is recyclable or compostable and every detail, from zippers and buttons to stitching, is considered for durability and environmental responsibility. By championing craftsmanship, culture and conscious consumption, LPC empowers women to dress beautifully and comfortably while honouring the earth and its makers. For Melony, sustainability is not a trend – it’s a promise to design with integrity, uplift all contributors and buyers alike, and leave as light a footprint as possible, one garment at a time.

REAL CHANGE IN ACTION

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

La Peony Clothing demonstrates a robust commitment to governance through two foundational pillars: organisational ethics and fair operating practices. Internally, the company upholds a comprehensive Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion Policy that enforces zero tolerance for discrimination and harassment. The policy actively supports UN Sustainable Development Goals 5, 8, and 10, embedding social accountability into its organisational culture. Externally, La Peony Clothing's Supplier Code of Conduct mandates anti-corruption and anti-bribery standards, conflict of interest prevention, competition law compliance, and anti-money laundering commitments from all supply chain partners, aligned with internationally recognised frameworks including the UN Global Compact and the Ethical Trading Initiative. These governance structures are essential to building trusted, transparent stakeholder relationships, which are prerequisites for long-term business integrity.

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS

La Peony Clothing takes a proactive, multi-layered approach to hazardous materials management across its supply chain. La Peony’s Chemical Commitments Policy explicitly prohibits the use of PVC, formaldehyde, heavy metals, and azo dyes, and requires all production partners to comply with internationally recognised frameworks including EU REACH, OEKO-TEX, Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals, California Proposition 65, and Global Organic Textile Standard. Supplier partnerships are established only with those demonstrating clear adherence to restricted substance limits, with annual reviews and corrective action protocols. In practice, dyehouse partners utilise GOTS 6.0/7.0-approved colourants and textile auxiliaries, independently assessed and certified by ECOCERT GREENLIFE for environmental, health, and safety compliance. These comprehensive hazardous material restrictions are critical not only for protecting human health and ecosystems, but also for ensuring consumer safety and building long-term supply chain credibility.

HUMAN RIGHTS & MODERN SLAVERY

La Peony Clothing demonstrates a firm and principled commitment to human rights and the elimination of modern slavery across its entire supply chain. La Peony’s Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement is aligned with the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act and the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act. The policy explicitly prohibits forced labour, child labour, and human trafficking, with all suppliers required to sign a Code of Conduct committing to fair wages, safe working conditions, and legal working age compliance. Due diligence is maintained through pre-engagement vetting, ongoing in-person and virtual audits, and written transparency agreements, with confirmed violations resulting in immediate partnership review or termination. Beyond policy, La Peony has cultivated close relationships with their artisan partners in Oaxaca, Mexico- prioritising strong social sustainability standards to protect the livelihoods of the people behind every garment.

A WORD FROM THE FOUNDER

LPC is the expression of my heart – born from lived experience and guided by intuition. I build with integrity and community at the center: every artisan, partner, and customer has a voice. We share what we know, pay it forward, and design pieces that make women feel seen, comfortable and powerful. True luxury is clothing that honors people and planet, tells the truth about how it’s made, and quietly makes lives better – one beautifully considered piece at a time.

WHY POSITIVE LUXURY?

I chose to pursue ESG+ certification through Positive Luxury to formally align LPC with the highest standards in environmental, social and governance responsibility. This certification reinforces my brand’s commitment to ethical production, fair labor, and sustainable practices. It adds credibility and transparency, strengthening trust with conscious consumers and retail partners. ESG+ also helps me measure impact more effectively and continually improve, ensuring LPC grows with integrity while creating meaningful value for people and the planet.

PATHWAY TO HIGHER STANDARDS

At LPC, they have focused on sustainability and social good by using more sustainable fabrics such as organic cotton, modal, bamboo, low-impact dyes and biodegradable packaging. Production is done in small batches to reduce waste, and the brand does not follow a traditional seasonal sales cycle. Instead, they create styles designed to be worn year-round, further minimising production waste. All garments are made ethically and to the highest quality standards in Los Angeles, ensuring fair wages and safe working conditions. Their ongoing focus is on continuously improving the supply chain and identifying any overlooked areas for greater impact.
