REAL CHANGE IN ACTION

PACKAGING EFFICIENCY

Godavari Diamonds packages its jewellery for its global customer base with recyclable and biodegradable materials without using any plastic. In addition, no heavy metals or chlorine are present. The paper stock in the gift packaging is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, which ensures that the pulps originate from sustainably managed forests. Jewellery cases for diamonds, rings and other Godavari luxury items can be tailored by using a single composite coral resin material. The cases are hand-crafted by locally based New Zealand suppliers with whom the company closely engages. Very few sustainable materials are sourced and assembled, which ends up generating less waste than similar product packaging tends to produce across the industry.

SUSTAINABLE SOURCING

Godavari Diamonds sources its jewellery for distribution and retail from a variety of fairtrade organisations and sustainably focused mining operations. The company has extensive visibility of its supply chain, including tier 2 and 3 suppliers. Through Godavari Diamonds’ network of business partners and certification bodies such as the Kimberley Process, jewellery pieces can effectively be traced. All direct suppliers are required to commit to Godavari Diamonds’ supplier of code of conduct. The company’s code stipulates that suppliers must comply with customs laws, competition laws, and international trade restrictions and sanctions. Suppliers are also accountable for prohibiting money-laundering and preventing conflicts of interest. The Godavari Diamonds sourcing strategy prioritises respect for human rights, decent working conditions, and effective grievance mechanisms in the supply chain. Suppliers’ environmental responsibilities are also non-negotiable prerequisites such as having an environmental management system, reducing GHG emissions, minimising waste, and preserving biodiversity. Company suppliers must also disclose their own sourcing practices.

ETHICS & FAIR OPERATING PRACTICES

Godavari

Godavari Diamonds also has its own internal code of conduct, which establishes a framework for responsible conduct and risk management for engaging with stakeholders. All the company’s activities and commitments are devoted to ‘’delivering high quality, ethically sourced, conflict free…jewellery.’’ The internal code guides employees to make appropriate choices in line with company values and policies ranging from diversity and inclusion in both the workplace and the supply chain to health and safety as well as sustainability concerns within the entire value chain. Godavari Diamonds’ anti-bribery and anti-corruption policies comply with the New Zealand Anti-Bribery Act 2015, and these are reviewed on a regular basis and updated where/when applicable. Despite being a micro-enterprise, an in-house anti-corruption system includes comprehensive whistleblowing and grievance resolution processes.
