We kicked off our new webinar series, The Power Series, this past Thursday with the first episode, The Power of Conversation. It featured a panel of thought leaders, including Sarah Rotheram, the CEO of luxury perfumer Miller Harris; Andrew Winston, a globally-recognised speaker and writer on business strategies; and Arizona Muse, model, environmental activist, ambassador for Greenpeace and Women For Women, collaborator with Extinction Rebellion and advisory board member at The Sustainable Angle.
The panel shared their thoughts and experience on the power of words, and how to use dialogue effectively regardless of the medium, led by questions from Positive Luxury CEO, Diana Verde Nieto. As Sarah was discussing what she and her company are going through, and their excellent initiative to help provide soap to those who need it most, she said “dialogue is better than silence,” implying that being a part of the discussion is so important right now. Arizona added that “the tone of voice we use has an incredible impact,” which highlighted not only the best kind of language to use in a time of unrest, but also the extra care we should be using when emoting through our language.
“What it means to be a business or an entity, or even a person, will hopefully evolve,” Andrew said of the impact coronavirus might have on the community. He said that we are finally realising there is a huge chain of people involved in our supply chains. Andrew then said that “we always look at the cost of changing, not the cost of not changing,” in reference to several governments prioritising the economy over people’s health.
