Impact and Commitment
ENVIRONMENTAL FRAMEWORK – INGREDIENT SOURCING
LUMIRA candles use only natural vegetable (soy) wax, which has a cleaner burn and less smoke compared with many other wax types. The essential oils that give each candle and perfume oil its unique scent are ethically sourced.
ENVIRONMENTAL FRAMEWORK – RECYCLING AND REUSING
Each vessel uses a coloured through glass, which is 100% recyclable. LUMIRA also encourages its customers to reuse the glass candle jars around the house. Alternatively, LUMIRA offers a take-back scheme and recycles the empty candle jars. All cardboard packaging and materials are 100% recyclable. The head office in Sydney, Australia, recycles all possible materials, and has substantially reduced its amount of single-use plastic. A zero plastic waste target is in place for December 2019.
ENVIRONMENTAL FRAMEWORK – BIODIVERSITY PRESERVATION AND COMMUNITY
In 2018, LUMIRA launched a three-year collaboration with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney. Under this scheme, LUMIRA creates candles inspired by the beauty and wonder of the Gardens and proceeds from the sales are donated directly to the Gardens to support their conservation work.
SOCIAL FRAMEWORK – FAIR LABOUR
LUMIRA only partners with suppliers and business who can take a strong ethical responsibility to human rights. All suppliers have their own Responsible Sourcing Policies that set high standards for health and safety, environmental, business integrity and social practices. LUMIRA follows the Fair Work Ombudsman, an independent statutory agency of the Government of Australia that promotes harmonious, productive and cooperative workplace relations and educates employers about fair work practices.
