ADVANCING BIODIVERSITY THROUGH SUSTAINABLE LUXURY SUPPLY CHAINS
March, 2026
PILLARS: ENVIRONMENT
MATERIAL DRIVERS: BIODIVERSITY
THE CHALLENGE
Forbes & Lomax approaches the lighting accessory market fusing luxury design with environmental responsibility. With its signature switches and plates requiring metals, plastics and luxurious finishes, the brand faces an ongoing challenge to advance sustainability standards within its supply chain – particularly in terms of resource extraction processes and biodiversity risks – whilst balancing the quality expected by customers.
CONSIDERATIONS
When considering how to strengthen environmental sustainability, it is essential to understand the full impact of the supply chain to identify risks and opportunities. Key considerations for Forbes & Lomax include component material resource efficiency as well as opportunities to improve circularity through the increased use of recycled materials.
APPROACH & ACTIONS
With guidance from Positive Luxury, Forbes & Lomax introduced new standards and processes, including:
Mapping and evaluating biodiversity risks and the lost opportunities linked to core materials (copper, brass, nickel, acrylics, stainless steel)
Identifying corrective actions, such as increasing the recycled content for metals and plastics, and substituting resource-intensive materials where feasible
Embedding environmental impact questions into supplier assessment protocols – measuring biodiversity impact and prioritising ethical sourcing to enhance their supply chain due diligence and vetting processes
RESULT
These actions have significantly enhanced transparency and visibility across Forbes & Lomax’s supply chain, allowing the brand to make more informed choices on future product composition. By identifying supply chain biodiversity risks, increasing internal transparency, and planning further collaboration with suppliers on responsible sourcing, it has also built greater trust across its stakeholder network. The result was a significant improvement in Forbes & Lomax’s score in Positive Luxury’s ESG+ assessment, in both the sustainable procurement and biodiversity drivers. The brand is now positioned as a leader among peers – and to consumers.
