We kicked off our new webinar series, The Power Series, in March. Yesterday, our eleventh episode, called The Power of New Beginnings, went live with insight from three amazing thought leaders. Amy Christiansen, founder of Sana Jardin; Fflur Roberts, Head of Global Luxury Goods at Euromonitor International, Cath Kidston, founder of her eponymous brand and Melita Hunter, co-founder of Song Saa discussed the outlook for business, and how the world is managing as it enters a post-lockdown phase.
The discussion was lead by questions from Positive Luxury CEO and Co-founder, Diana Verde Nieto. Diana began by asking Cath, how she sees the future of luxury market and mega trends coming out of lockdown.
“As we move forward, the pandemic has impacted consumers confidence” said Fflur. “We believe that the luxury industry overall will be one of the hardest hit, we predict that the luxury industry will decline by 18% by the end of 2020.”
Diana then followed up asking designer Cath how she gets inspired and how does it feel to start again.
“Its an amazing journey from when I started my corner business to employing hundred of employees” replied Cath, “I became part of a bigger machine and really missed the creative part. After a trip to India I realised that the reason I loved doing what I do was that I got all these ideas and I then had all these ideas but nowhere to put them. It’s really exciting to start again, coming out of lockdown I realise that I want to keep a relatively small company. I’ve got the freedom to decide what future I want for my company.”
Amy Christiansen from Sana Jardin had a similar answer “As a business, the way Sana Jardin has adapted, we needed to shift in order to keep the business alive. said Amy “We’re thinking about many different opportunities to be more digital and how we can sell a scent online. For me this has been an opportunity to go back to the core DNA of the brand.”
Melissa from Song Saa then explained how her business has been impacted and how she believes the travel industry will be impacted post COVD-19. “It will give brands the opportunity to rewrite the gamble.” she said.
Next, Diana asked the panelist where they find the strength and how they stay motivated. “My aim is to try and do the best” said Cath “I’m still on that path to get where I want to be creatively, always wanting to improve. And thats what motivates me”.
“A lot of strength will be about going back on the sustainable aspect of the industry, putting people before profit” added Fflur.
Before moving on to the Q&A, the panel discussed sustainability moving forward and how the human element is of critical importance in a world that is becoming more and more digital.
