SKIWEAR IN 2020 WILL BE VEGAN AND CRUELTY-FREE

2020 skiwear trends

It’s ski season in both Europe and North America, and that means thousands of people will be hitting the slopes in their winter gear through the coming months. With climate change and environmental impact rapidly becoming the focus for consumers, there are a few 2020 skiwear trends people will be considering this season. According to Club Med, those trends for both skiwear and accessories will include cruelty-free and vegan textiles.

Jonathan Chippindale, CEO of digital retail agency Holition, told Club Med, “When I look at the future generations, they’re not just talking about sustainability ‐ they’re already doing it.” He adds that he “can’t see any Gen Z coming through who would buy non‐sustainable ski products.’’

How will this transform the traditional down-filled, fur-lined pieces so frequently spotted on the slopes? It means alternatives like plant-based down, synthetic fleece from global organic textile standard-certified wool, and sustainably-made vegan leather. Club Med’s research showed that 75% of consumers are interested in choosing pieces like this to help combat climate change, and one third have already eliminated unsustainable materials from their ski wardrobes.

The ski trends report also showed that companies are investing in new materials to meet these growing customer demands, and to do their part when it comes to protecting the planet. As a result, skiwear is being produced from plant-based materials like soybean and hemp. The report also showed that skiers are interested in incorporating tech into their gear, with 2020 skiwear trends also including items like smart helmets, heated socks and voice-controlled ski cameras.

Estelle Giraudeau, managing director of both UK and Northern Europe Club Med said, “This is an exciting time for ski fashion. Over the decades we have seen clothing brands develop exciting new products and with technology advancing at such a fast rate, we expect even more advancements to come.”
