The Future Of Fashion Business, a weekly podcast hosted by fashion entrepreneur Esteban Julian, aims to help fledging brands learn from industry leaders. In the last episode of 2019, called The Current State of Sustainability, Esteban spoke with Positive Luxury’s Co-founder and CEO, Diana Verde Nieto.
With this episode, Esteban wanted to make sure people begin the new year with the information they need to live as sustainably as possible. In keeping with that mission, Diana discusses the current state of sustainability, the direction it might be taking in the future, and the natural challenges that will come with progress.
Diana discusses the beginnings of her career in sustainability, back in 2002 when it was a relatively uncommon part of the business conversation. She talks about starting Positive Luxury in 2011, when sustainability was still uncommon. Diana then moves on to what the conversation looks like now, and how sustainability needs to be an integral part of every business model, irrevocably woven in to all operations.
When you see the damage in the world, you think no business and no government on its own can solve this problem,” says Diana. “It’s an all of us problem. And I had this feeling that if everyone knew what I knew, they’ll stop talking about it and take action, because if we don’t make the changes we need to, we’ll be in trouble.”
