Founded in 2019, Aspen Distillers is dedicated to the development of enduring premium spirit brands for the enjoyment of discerning consumers across the globe. They are firmly anchored in the “Aspen Idea” — first articulated in the 1940s — that human beings reach their highest level when the mind, body and spirit are empowered by nature’s beauty. The Distillery, centered in the beauty of the Aspen valley, is taking innovative steps to go above and beyond current measures for sustainability and through all of its practices, will lead the way toward a more culturally rich, socially just and ecologically restorative society.
SUSTAINABILITY PURPOSE
The Aspen Way focuses on cultural enrichment, social responsibility and environmental protection. Aspen Distillers has built its foundations on these principles and will seek to export the Aspen Way beyond Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley through all of their methods and practices. This requires innovative thinking that will push the limits of traditional notions of sustainability. The Aspen distillery will meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification and will go through a one-year audit governed by the International Living Future Institute to meet the Living Building Challenge, the most rigorous certification for regenerative building practices. Aspen Distillers will be the first in the category to achieve this lofty measure, setting a new bar for the alcohol spirit industry in sustainable practices. Aspen Distillers’ mission is to minimize impact with every decision it makes to create a better future. This commitment began in the early construction phase of the distillery evidenced through the salvaging of all waste from the site demolition and diverting it from the landfill. Only FSC Certified Lumber was selected for the construction of the distillery, ensuring that materials were sourced from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits. Further, Aspen Distillers is fully electrified and powered by onsite renewable energy, resulting in net zero carbon emissions. Sustainable farming is demonstrated by the employment of regenerative agriculture practices to improve soil health. Aspen Distillers has woven its values into the fabric of Aspen and will advance this culture across its entire business. This commitment will lead to the betterment of their present and ensure their premium spirits become legacy brands for future generations.
