It took 10 pairs of dedicated hands, and their distinct skills, to create the Jumla Journal by hand, from plant harvest to finish. The Jumla Journal cover is made of three textures: Allo (nettle weave), Daphley (vegetal leather), hemp and plain linen lining. Inner sheets are made of natural colour Daphne paper.
This Journal comes with its own story about its origin and traditions that inspired its creation, presented in a handmade daphne paper card.
Daphne Paper is made from the fibres extracted from the bark of the Himalayan Daphne bush, which regenerates rapidly after cutting it. Its long and self-adhesive fibres create a strong durable paper.
Daphley is a vegetal leather; an innovation by the designer Marina Shrestha. It is made from the same fibres from the bark of the daphne bush, done with a different technique than that of paper.
Allo is the local name for nettle weave, a very strong and natural fabric made from the Himalayan giant nettle plant.
Hemp grows and regenerates speedily without the use of fertilisers. It’s in its stem that the long fibres which, after having soaked ten days in the water, can be detached, crushed, spun and woven.
Journal with a soft cover and 3 textures: Allo (nettle weave), Daphley (vegetal leather) and hemp, plain linen lining and inner sheets of natural colour Daphne paper.
