At Harlen, sustainability and social responsibility are intrinsic in the brand DNA. Crafting its Modern Careerpieces in Italy’s most renowned heritage ateliers with upcycled Italian leather from the Arzignano region, the Harlen Collection is truly “Made in Italy”.
Harlen’s leather is sourced exclusively from Italy. The brand’s Italian leathers, as well as its Tibetan furs, are by-products of the food industry. The transformation of rough hides into stunning leathers allows for recovery and reuse of what would otherwise be an additional waste, and Italy’s rich history of leather production is legendary, dating back well over 1,000 years.
Harlen’s American alligator is sourced from one of the finest firms in Milan, and the materials themselves are sourced exclusively through the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries’ sustained-use management and conservation program. That Department notes that its sustained use program “is one of the world’s most recognizable examples of a wildlife conservation success story” and a model for species management. The American alligator is not endangered or threatened anywhere in the United States, and the Louisiana program certifies to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on an annual basis that there is no detriment to the species. All of Harlen’s suppliers are CITIES-approved.
Of note, the tanneries that Harlen selected, after an exhaustive international search, adhere to the quality standards and environmental regulations set out by UNI EN ISO 9001 and UNI EN ISO 14001.

Even the hardware used for Harlen’s Modern Careerpieces is sourced respnsibly. Its zips are exclusively from Raccagni, an Italian company that uses advanced technology to ensure sustainable manufacturing. Harlen uses only microsuedes created by Alcantara for its linings, a supplier that weaves CSR into its brand and represent the utmost excellence in Italian craftsmanship.
All of Harlen’s packaging contain recyclable parts, sourced from FSC or Sustainable Forest Initiative-certified suppliers.
Harlen is deeply invested in moving opportunity forward at the community level, too. Honouring the inimitable skills of master Italian artisans, Harlen ensures that their rich history is preserved and passed down to the next generation. Harlen also contributes to Room to Read, the leading non-profit for literacy and girls’ education. When you own a Modern Careerpiece, Harlen supports a year of education and empowerment for a girl in Room to Read’s Girls’ Education Program, which includes the tools girls need to succeed: tuition and fees, mentoring and life-skills education, books and uniforms, and other materials, like a bike, if she needs one to get to school. The brand is also actively pursuing initiatives to support gender equality in the workplace and the advancement of women in the arts.
