Holiday guide: What pieces to pack for your destination

Packing for a holiday can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. If you pay attention to the weather report, take stock of your itinerary and plan for a few unexpected events, you can be sure you won’t show up to any part of your trip unprepared. Of course, what you’re packing is also affected by your destination.

You might need a warm scarf to transition a dress from day to night. Or sparkling earrings to elevate your outfit for an evening event. And you might want a great versatile piece that you can wear several times throughout your trip. Whatever you need and wherever you’re headed, read on for sustainable packing inspiration for three sustainable holiday destinations.

Embarking on a journey through the beautiful Galapagos Islands on one of Aracari‘s incredible luxury cruises involves a broad itinerary of alfresco dining, diving, and of course, expeditions to see the diverse wildlife. That means you’ll need to transition quickly from your outdoor or diving gear into something relaxed but beautiful for the evenings.

The simplest way to do this is with a caftan. Ocean + Main creates effortlessly beautiful ones, like the Geo Print Long Placket Caftan. It’s lightweight, easy to care for, and the black and white print will go with everything. If the evenings are expected to be chilly, pack an Organic Cashmere Pashmina from Christina Krämer that you can add to any outfit. This is also a great piece to keep with your in your hand luggage for the flight when cabin temperatures can be unpredictable. If you need to elevate your outfit a little more, consider the Muladahara earrings from Noor Fares. They’re set with black opals that will mirror the deep blue of the ocean, and their simplistic beauty won’t overwhelm your look.

Spending a relaxing week at a resort in the South of France is the perfect way to unwind, and Rusticae‘s Château Castigno is the ideal place to enjoy the region. The boutique hotel sits among vineyards, it’s home to three restaurants and the Mediterranean is just a short drive away.

For a trip like this, choose pieces you’ll feel both relaxed and stylish in, like a breezy pair of pyjama-inspired trousers from Veraroad. The Liz Pansy Pants, made in Italy from silk that’s both luxurious and lightweight, are a great option. To feel fully immersed in your surroundings, pack a fragrance that will help you escape, too. L’Eau Magnetic from Miller Harris is reminiscent of the ocean, with notes of driftwood, pink pepper and zesty citrus. If you’ve planned your holiday with fun for the whole family in mind, bring along a pair of Hevea‘s Swim Fins, made for children from upcycled, non-toxic rubber.

Verbier is an idyllic Swiss town, set amongst stunning mountain vistas with so many opportunities for adventure. Lagom specialises in sustainable trips to the Alps where you can enjoy their beauty without harming it. Depending on what time of year you’re heading to the Alps, you might need ski gear, but regardless, versatility is key when you’re choosing outfits to pack.

Danielle Fichera makes pieces with both form and function in mind, and her Jade Jumpsuit captures that. Wear it with sandals and a denim jacket, and you’ll have a relaxed daytime outfit. Dress it up with heels and a colourful clutch bag for an evening out. With more versatility in mind, pack a simple bangle that can be worn both day and night. KBH Jewels makes gorgeous pieces, like their Reclaimed Classic Bangle crafted from upcycled 14k yellow gold.
