Kokku
Launched in the summer of 2010 by husband and wife Andrea and Ansula Usai, Kokku is a jewellery brand centred around the preservation of a culture and the protection of a dying art form.
Kokku’s ethical framework of “doing business by doing good” flows from the values of Ansula and Andrea who are influenced by their diverse cultural backgrounds. Born to a German mother and a Sri Lankan father, Ansula comes from a family of architects and designers, while Andrea, a native Sardinian, had a career in the travel industry before turning her attention to the preservation of traditional Sardinian crafts.
Kokku was born with the vision of preserving traditional craftsmanship by partnering with local Sardinian artisans to create their jewellery. By bringing the artisans’ workmanship and creative prowess to an international audience through their ethical marketplace, they make this endangered art form come alive.
Andrea and Ansula handpick exquisite handmade gold and silver filigree jewellery from Sardinian artists, unrivaled in its level of precision and beauty. It blends the old with the new by combining traditional skill, contemporary design and exclusively patented techniques.
Kokku is delighted to announce that 5% of all purchases over Christmas 2012 will be donated to the Nawajeewaya charity in Sri Lanka in aid of families who were affected by the 2004 tsunami offering a home to children who lost their parents.
