Jon Dibben
Jon Dibben began on a beach. More importantly, it began with an open-minded young man on a beach, at the culmination of his teenage travels around Europe. The beach was on the Greek island of Naxos; a nudist beach, where Jon lived, in a bamboo hut, for two years. It was a minimal, essential existence, which nurtured in him a value for the natural world around him as well as inspiration for his innate creativity. The outlet for his aptitude was, inevitably, equally minimal, but these first experiments with shells and beads came to fruition with the luxury of time to be as thoughtful and precise as his instinct prompted him to be. The sum of this experience was to form the foundation for his company philosophy.
It’s an ethos that has led to Jon and his brother working with a small, tight-knit team of goldsmiths and gemmologists who are committed to creating each of his designs with meticulous attention to detail and finish. Some pieces are entirely unique, many are crafted in very limited numbers, and all possess the rare quality and endurance of true modern heirlooms.
Jon’s enthusiasm for ethical sourcing ensured he was one of the first twenty designers licensed to make jewellery using the world's first certified Fairtrade & Fairmined gold. His debut design in this ethical precious metal was recognised by the British Jewellers' Association as a landmark piece of the past 125 years within the industry, and was selected for their Anniversary Exhibition, representing 2011- the year Fairtrade & Fairmined gold was launched.
Jon Dibben was named by 'Professional Jeweller' magazine as a 'Trend Setter' in their 'Hot 100', and the company has been peer voted as an 'Inspiring Independent' by the trade's 'Retail Jeweller' magazine for two consecutive years.
In 2013 anyone who commissions a Fairtrade and Fairmined gold or platinum piece of jewellery from Jon Dibben will be invited to get involved in hand making their unique piece, in Jon’s own workshop, with expert guidance from the in-house goldsmith; a true money-can’t-buy experience.
The offer will support the Fairtrade Foundation’s ‘Go Further for Fairtrade’ Campaign 2013; and will run from the start of Fairtrade fortnight on 25th February until the end of the year. See their Blog for details.
