J. Crew
J. Crew started in 1983 with the mailing of its first catalogue. Six years later they opened their first flagship store in New York, and today the business spans the USA including retail and outlet stores plus an ever growing online and catalogue business.
Headed by chairman and CEO Millard Drecler, J. Crew is dedicated to pushing service, quality and innovation to the next level. They partner with the finest global fabric mills and craftsmen—as well as with iconic brands such as Jack Purcell, Timex, Thomas Mason and Red Wing.
The company went global in August 2011 with the opening of their first Canadian store, followed quickly in 2012 by the expansion of their e-commerce site to over 100 countries.
With the growth of their business came the growth of their corporate responsibility. J. Crew are committed to sourcing their products in a legal and ethical manner. This includes being a member of the Fair Factories Clearinghouse, having a Vendor Code of Conduct and providing all their suppliers with the tools they need to improve working conditions.
Establishing the J. Crew Green Committee in 2008, the company now has three key environmental objectives; to reduce their energy, paper and water use, to collaborate with suppliers to improve their environmental performance and to seek to raise internal and external awareness.
Since 2002, they have installed energy management systems in all new stores. In 2011, approximately 77% of paper used in J. Crew catalogues was FSC certified, the Environmental Champions program was created and they launched a Community Supported Agriculture program.
J. Crew proudly supports a number of local and international charities, including Council of Fashion Designers of America, Teach for America, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
