Heidi Mottram

Internationally renowned brand, Heidi Mottram, is known for their award-winning bags and purses. Each bag is individually designed in London, before being produced from fair-trade and handcrafted, finest eel skin leather.

Heidi, the woman behind the brand, studied at the London College of Fashion and Central St Martins, and has worked for major international designers such as Vivienne Westwood and Matthew Williamson. She was one of the first designers in the UK to design accessories with eel skin and Poulard leather and is considered by many to be a guru for the use of the skins.

Eel skin is incredibly durable – 150% stronger than cowhide of the same thickness – making it a long-lasting material for everyday use. It is soft and feather-light, and also has the advantage of being a by-product: the eels were not killed for their skin.

Each bag is one-of-a-kind due to the distinctive variations in the eel’s colour and markings. Sumptuously rich and vibrant, each season’s collection feature new jewel coloured shapes and textures.

The company also uses a variety of fish leather, such as salmon, perch and wolf fish, for their products, all of which are a by-product reclaimed from food-processing. Heidi Mottram does not tolerate the harming of animals purely for vanity, using only skins that would usually be thrown away. Fish leather is also NON-CITES, meaning that none of the leathers used are from endangered species.

A Heidi Mottram bag exudes quality, elegance and a touch of signature British quirkiness, whilst maintaining ethical values. As an ethical company, Heidi Mottram is a member of the Ethical Fashion Forum Fellowship 500.

Heidi Mottram has been featured in Instyle, Stylist, Grazia, the Evening Standard and Metro.
