Green Furniture Sweden
Green Furniture Sweden has its roots in Berhin Studios, created by the designer Johan Berhin in 2005. Green Furniture Sweden represents the furniture collection of Berhin Studios. In Spring 2008 Green Furniture Sweden launched a plantation as the first step in their green program. For each piece of furniture they sell, they plant one furniture-quality birch in the vicinity of their local production site in northern Skåne. They do this because it is hard to acquire Swedish veneer of high enough quality and want to secure our long term supply, but also elevate the issue.
Also in 2008 Berhind decided to make a difference in the world and forge ahead in the field of eco design. He initiated a global competition, the Green Furniture Award, to find the best eco design furniture ideas, to highlight these and have them produced.
To minimise the impact on the environment, eco design strategies are followed, including the reduction of materials used and the selection of low-impact materials meaning reused, recycled, biodegradable and renewable materials. Green Furniture Sweden also follows strategies that optimise production techniques, distribution system, initial lifetime and end-of-life system as well as the reduction of impact during use.
