Concha y Toro

In 1883, when Chile’s wine industry was taking its first shaky steps, local politician and businessman Don Melchor Concha y Toro founded Concha Y Toro. He brought noble French grapevines from the Bordeaux region to plant at Pirque in the Maipo Valley and contracted eminent French enologist Monsieur Labouchere to craft his wines.

Concha y Toro is now Latin America’s principal wine exporter and one of the most important wine brands in the world, with a presence in more than 135 countries. Throughout the whole production process they extract the unique and distinctive characteristics of each specific origin.

The company achieves consistently high scores from Wine Spectator, and their premium wine, Casillero del Diablo, is renowned as Chile’s first global wine brand with sales topping 2 million cases.

Committed to sustainability, Concha y Toro uses initiatives like light bottles and drip irrigation to responsibly use energy and conserve the environment. Working together with Fundación Chile and Water Footprint Network, it was the world’s first winery to measure its water footprint. The welfare and quality of life of its workers is also a top priority; Concha y Toro’s quality of life department generates a platform of services for employees to access, including a support network that provides psychological, legal, social and financial help.

After the devastating effects of Chile’s 2010 earthquake, Viña Concha y Toro saw to the reconstruction of housing for both its own workers and the wider community.

That same year Concha y Toro became the official wine partner of Manchester United Football Club, and most recently they received the Certificate of Excellence 2012 from TripAdvisor.
