Choolips
Choolips is a London-based womenswear label headed by designer Annegret Affolderbach. Introducing the luxuries of ancient textiles traditions and high quality craftsmanship back into fashion, Choolips creates exquisitely detailed collections which are seamless blends of cultures with the backbone of sustainability.
Choolips’ aim is to harmonise the mindset of producers and consumers by trading fairly and by producing locally with small water and carbon footprints.
Collections include the Golden Coast collection which was printed in Ghana using local batikers and tailored by SOKO seamstresses and tailors in Kenya. The Planet India collection is made entirely by hand using khadi fabrics embellished with handstitched applique details. Khadi fabrics were chosen due to the fact that only consumes 3litres of water for 1metre of cloth in its entire production compared to mill cloth which consumes 55litres for 1metre.
Choolips’ inaugural collection was awarded Global Commercial Dress and Print Design from the Ethical Fashion Forum and resulted in a sell-out collection for Topshop.
Today Choolips’ award-winning signature not only empowers developing communities but celebrates the Trade not Aid ethos. Aside from commercial success, awards include Barclays Innovative Business of the Year in 2008 and a finalist for The British Fashion Council’s Young Fashion Entrepreneur of the Year in 2009.
