Thursday evening was the Pure Beauty Awards, a glamorous black tie event at the Savoy Hotel in London’s Mayfair, honouring the best and brightest in the field. Winning products ranged from high-end luxury moisturisers to inexpensive everyday buys. Here are some of the winners from the night as well as some insider opinion on the products from beauty writer Sarah Berryman…
Proven in clinical trials to increase the skin’s moisture levels by 98%, Neal’s Yard’s Beauty Sleep Concentrate is a simple but effective night-time beauty routine. Thankfully it comes in 100% recyclable packaging and from a brand certified carbon neutral.
Describing their work as “Sustainable products for a sustainable lifestyle,” Dr Hauschka offer a huge variety of beauty products from skin to haircare. Sarah Berryman tried their Body Silk, a powder for hair, face and body- “This looks, feels and smells like luxury. It had a pleasant scent but the packaging makes it difficult to control the flow of powder or direct it properly to your roots.”
Melting from gel to a creamy milk to soothe and cleanse tired skin, Elemis’ Melting Cleansing Gel features skin protective organic Argan Oil, Rice Silk and purifying Rosemary Leaf. Elemis also avoid the use of synthetics, using organic extracts and essential oils distilled directly from fresh plant material.
Designed to even skin tone and increase your ‘glow’, Garnier’s All-In-One B.B. Cream is a current, inexpensive high street favourite. Sarah tested it herself- “I was actually quite disappointed with this product. For a cream that is meant to be light and non greasy, I found it both heavy and greasy.”
In discovering that the men of rural Japan had 5 times the normal amount of hyaluronic acid (a protein involved heavily in collagen production and the structural integrity of the skin), Asim Akhtar, the creator of Kyoku, set about creating a men’s beauty brand that utilises natural ingredients such as ginseng, green tea leaf and avocado oil to achieve dramatic cosmetic results. Kyoku Eye Fuel creates anti-aging, eye lifting effects and clears dark circles helping you to achieve a more youthful appearance.
